The Starting Point for Clarity

Understanding your child’s challenges begins with clarity—not assumptions. Our evaluation process is designed to uncover why a child is struggling and to translate that understanding into practical next steps for school, therapy, and daily life. Every pathway begins with an Initial Evaluation, ensuring thoughtful, individualized care from the very first conversation.

Initial Evaluation

The Initial Evaluation is a history-gathering meeting with one of our clinicians. During this session, we review your child’s developmental, academic, medical, and social history while discussing current concerns and goals.

Assessment Approaches

Neuropsychological Evaluation

The Gold Standard for Understanding Learning and Cognition

A neuropsychological evaluation is a specialized form of psychological testing that provides a comprehensive understanding of a child’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses. These evaluations help parents, educators, and clinicians understand not just what a child is struggling with—but why.

We assess:

  • Intellectual Functioning
  • Attention and Concentration
  • Memory and Learning
  • Executive Functioning (planning, organization, impulse control)
  • Language and Communication Skills
  • Visual–Spatial Reasoning
  • Motor Functioning
  • Academic Achievement
  • Social and Emotional Functioning

We use standardized, research-validated measures and tailor each evaluation to the child’s unique profile. No two evaluations are identical—every assessment is thoughtfully designed to capture what matters most for that child.

Psychological Evaluation

Focused Assessment of Social and Emotional Health

Some children experience significant emotional or behavioral challenges without a history of learning difficulties. Psychological evaluations focus on understanding emotional well-being, personality factors, and social functioning to support accurate diagnosis and effective treatment.

These evaluations may be appropriate for children experiencing:

  • Anxiety or Depression
  • Behavioral or Mood Difficulties
  • Intensive Psychological or Therapeutic Needs

Assessment tools may include:

  • Objective tests of personality, like the MMPI
  • Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule–2 (ADOS-2)
  • Autism Diagnostic Interview–Revised
  • Projective techniques, like the Inkblot test
  • Clinical interviews, behavioral checklists, and standardized emotional measures

These tools help clarify a wide range of emotional and behavioral patterns and help identify conditions affecting social reciprocity, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Neuropsychological Vs. Psychoeducational Evaluations

Neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations differ in their purpose and depth. Psychoeducational evaluations focus primarily on academic performance, while neuropsychological evaluations offer a comprehensive look at cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. A neuropsychological evaluation assesses areas such as attention, memory, executive functioning, language, visuospatial skills, motor abilities, and academic achievement.

This approach not only identifies that a child is struggling but clarifies why, supporting accurate diagnosis and targeted intervention. These evaluations also consider developmental and neurological factors that may influence learning and behavior. Families receive a holistic understanding of their child, along with recommendations that may include school supports, therapeutic services, and medical follow-up when appropriate.
